Cathy has worked in the field of Special Education and Children’s Social Services for almost 40 years.

She has worked with children in the Cleveland Public inner city schools, in Australia, in San Bernardino County Schools, and the last 20 years in the Non-Public Schools accredited by the California Department of Education. Her mission is to provide state-of-the-art quality education for the group of students who need it the most – those with special needs.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Miami University, a Master’s degree in Special Education from Alameda University and a second Master’s degree in Administration from National University. She has built a team of excellent and dedicated educators at Canyon View School as evidenced by the school’s Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation, State Certification, and a very happy and successful group of districts, students and parents.

 

John Mann

John graduated from California State University at Fullerton in 1989 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology, and earned a Master’s degree in Special Education in 1999 from National University.

John started working with at-risk youth in 1989 as a Counselor/Unit Supervisor in a residential facility and began substitute teaching during his days off in 1991. John moved into a permanent high school Special Education class as a teacher in 1993. As a teacher, John made learning fun and engrossing by designing interactive/hands on activities to assist students in learning about difficult concepts.

John moved to Canyon View School in 2005 as the Senior Special Education Teacher/Vice Principal and moved into the role of Principal in 2008. John enjoys working with at-risk students and seeing them blossom when given the opportunity and encouragement.

 

Gina Perry

Gina has worked in the field of Special Education and Children’s Services for 26 years.

She has worked with children in hospitals, residential programs, public schools, and, for the last 17 years, in the Private/Non-Public Schools accredited by the California Department of Education. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University Fullerton, and a Master’s degree in Educational Counseling from Chapman University. She has credentials in the areas of Multiple Subjects, Special Education, Pupil Personnel Services, and a CLAD certificate.

She is currently the Vice Principal at Canyon View School, where she oversees the Elementary and Middle school programs, Individual Education Plans, crisis intervention, outcome measures, parent groups, special projects, personnel administration, and accreditation. Gina lives by the philosophy that, “When we are out of sympathy for the young, then our work in this world is over.”

 

Dr. Juan Moriel

Dr. Juan Moriel has been working at McKinley Children's Center since 2004. Dr. Moriel has previously worked at McKinley’s Residential and Foster Care Programs as the Intake Coordinator and Clinical Supervisor, respectively.

He currently serves as the Designated Instructional Services (D.I.S.) Counselor Supervisor, overseeing school counselors and case managers. He makes sure that each of the students school-related needs are met to ensure optimal academic performance and social-emotional well-being.

Dr. Moriel most enjoys working directly with the students and families and linking them to needed services. He was recently selected to participate in the development of the American Psychiatric Association’s upcoming Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5th Edition.
